Mod en retorisk forståelse af det europæiske samarbejde

Abstract

EU er en retorisk proces, hvilket vil sige at den generelle forståelse af, hvad EU er og bør være, fremkommer via diskussioner af konkrete problemstillinger i specifikke kontekster. Denne artikel påpeger, at selvom samfundsvidenskabelige teorier om den Europæiske Union i stigende grad er opmærksomme på, at unionen er en kommunikativ størrelse, så har teorierne endnu ikke taget højde for den kommunikative konstituerings retoriske og dermed indirekte natur. Artiklens hovedargument er, at de samfundsvidenskabelige teoriers forklaringspotentiale øges, når den retoriske dimension inddrages. Endvidere argumenterer artiklen for, at retorikken bliver i stand til at bidrage til forklaringen af samfundsdannelse som sådan, hvis en samfundsvidenskabelig forståelse af sammenhængen mellem legitimitet, identitet og offentlig meningsdannelse inddrages i den retoriske teoridannelse.

Sine Just Nørgaard er Sine Nørholm Just er adjunkt ved Center for Kommunikation, CBS. Hun beskæftiger sig primært med offentlig meningsdannelse, særligt debatten om EU’s fremtid, og arbejder i det tværvidenskabelige felt mellem retorik og samfundsvidenskab.
