Abstract

Feminist rhetorical theory is by now a distinct multidisciplinary perspective. In this paper, we outline the birth and development of feminist rhetorical theory and specifically its disciplinary connections to rhetoric, women studies and gender studies. Whereas incorporating and differentiating are key strategies to women and gender studies, transformation is at the heart of feminist rhetorical theory. We then turn to a contemporary case - the selling of Scandinavian sperm in the United States by Scandinavian Cryobank and the marketing material available on the company’s website. Whereas women studies and gender studies develop different analyses, feminist rhetorical theory uniquely positions the rhetorical and foregrounds its transformative potential.
