Abstract

Den politiske tale tillægges traditionelt det mål at tilskynde eller fraråde fremtidige handlinger. Prædikenen drejer sig om forkyndelse af Biblens ord. En rekonstruk tion og analyse af en prædiken, som vi kun har overleveret i form af et memorandum med et kortfattet referat, tyder på at blandingen af politik og forkyndelse kan være eksplosiv. Prædikenen blev holdt i 1765 i Boston, hvor den politiske situation var på kogepunktet over den skat det engelske parlament havde pålagt de amerikanske kolonier. Analysen søger at genskabe situationen og argumenterer for at prædikanten der holder en politisk prædiken, må være bevidst om hvad han kan sætte i gang. Politik forankrer en prædiken i dens situation.
